24 hr Creatinine Clearance Test

Question
Thank you Dr. Shah for all you do to help inform us!

This is a follow up to a previous question...

Last year I had a Creatinine Clearance Test and all was normal. My Blood Creatitine was at 1.16 (a bit high for lab)

This year my Blood Cratinine is 1.07 (normal for lab)and I am taking the 24 hr test again.

I am healthy with no signs leading towards Kidney Disease (Diabetes, High BP).

My question is, if my Blood Creatinine level improved over the past year, shouldn't the 24 hour test also be fine this time around as well?

Could you please explain how a healthy 40 year old female with no known health issues has a blood creatitine that is slightly high one year and normal the next.  My doctor attributes this to aging and a slow down of renal function over time, providing there are no other ailments.

I am worried and have anxiety over this.

Thank you,

Andrea

Answer
Hi Andrea,

Thanks for following up with me.

A change in blood creatinine over time may be due to a number of reasons. Some of the common ones are:

1. State of hydration

2. Large meat meal

3. Change in muscle mass

4. Recent strenuous exercise

I agree with your doctor's explanation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
