Polycystic kidney

Question
QUESTION: Hello my question is can I eat all

the vegtable protein I want? Or do I have to

limit that just like animal protein? My

current creative is 1.17 urea is 11 Gfr is 68

ANSWER: Hi Robert,

Thanks for asking my help on "Allexperts".

Vegetable protein is not high biological value. You can eat all the vegetable protein you want.

Studies in humans indicate that an increase in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) can be induced by animal protein and by amino acid mixtures; in comparison, vegetable protein and egg whites alone produce little or no effect. Why the latter sources of protein have little hemodynamic activity is not clear, but lower concentrations of the amino acids that cause renal vasodilatation (such as glycine and alanine) and lesser stimulation of vasodilator prostaglandins may be involved.

Dr. shah

Answer
Hi Rob,

Thanks for following up with me.

There is no need to compulsively drink 2 liters of fluid every day. Let your thirst guide you for fluid intake. Now on to you questions:

1. Yes. You can et whole grain and wheat products

2. Yes. As your caregiver said, please limit your protein intake to 66 grams per day. This includes all proteins

3. Yes, egg whites are safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
