Question
Hi Dr. Shah,

My brother was recently suffering from high creatinine levels ranging from 8 to 11. He is 37 years old and have not ever been seriously ill. He was admitted in a hospital and given dialysis and and the creatinine reduced but it took only 4 days to shoot the levels up. After all different tests which included ANA blood test and USG nothing was obtained. In renal biopsy it was concluded that he has a disease called sub-acute interstitial tubular nephritis. He is now given cortisone type steroids for last four days but still the creatinine levels are rising. I want to know that is there a cure for this except transplants. He is a very fit man and does not have a any swelling or rash or fever. Only thing that is happening is that when creatinine is rising he is vomiting. Please suggest what should we do and will be the steroids be of some help?

Answer
Hi Rajat,

Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".

Your brother is being treated correctly. It may take some time for his kidneys to recover. The degree of recovery depends on multiple factors and discussing them is beyond the scope of this forum.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
