Question
Good morning, I have a persistent ache on the right side of my back, just under the ribcage. It is about halfway between the side and the band of muscles. It is extremely sore to the touch. I feel fatigued all the time. I can sleep 10-12 hours and still feel tired. I'm usually very high energy.
My blood work and urinalysis are good, except for trace blood in the urine. The blood work included Lyme disease, B12 and D levels, although the latter two may be distorted by the fact that I take supplements. I am awaiting the results of an ultrasound of the right kidney. What else should my excellent primary care practitioner and I be considering? I want to be sure that we are going in the most likely direction.
Thank you for you assistance and for this service.
Answer
Hi Allie,
Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".
It is difficult to hazard a differential diagnosis without examining you. However, if your ache is sore to touch, you must also consider inflammation/infection of the back muscles. If the ultrasound results are negative, ask your PCP to order a CT scan of that area.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
