kidney injury

Question
Dr. Shah,

Thank you for your time. I am a 40yr.f. *I take coumadin. About 10 days ago I fell very hard onto the corner of my dresser.  It hit my kidney area. I developed a very lg. bruise almost immediately.  By the next morning I was in agony and went to urgent care.  I did have blood in my urine, no broken bones.  I did not have any blood work, BUT was sent for a ct scan.  The ct scan showed no bleeding or lacerations.  Just a bruise.  Now 10 days later I am still literally falling to my knees in pain.  Everytime I move that area goes into spasm.  I can't even lightly touch the area over my kidney without pain, it is so tender.  I am currently taking oxycodone for the pain, but not sure it is doing much.

Here are my questions:

Should I have had blood tests to ck. my kidney function?

Should I go back and see my own doctor?

Is it normal to still be in so much pain?

Could it be more than a bruise?

Thank you so much for your time and expertise.

Answer
Hi Christine,

Thanks for asking my help on "Allexperts".

1. Yes, you should have blood tests for kidney function

2. Please go back to see your doctor. It is not OK to be still in so much pain. You probably have bruising of the internal back muscles.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
