Kidneys GFR

Question
My kidney GFR is 30 mL/min, up from a low of 23 mL/min.

My weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, protein are all in normal range. I follow a kidney diet to the letter,

and in the last 3 months I have lost 25 pounds and reduced my

BUN fro 2.8 to 2.1. How do I raise my GFR.

Also I take aspirin solely as a heart disease preventative (I have no heart problems ). Is aspirin dangerous to my kidneys ?

Answer
Hi George,

Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".

What is the cause of low GFR? If you have chronic kidney disease (CKD), then I am afraid it is not possible to increase GFR. Measures to slow down the progression can certainly be tried based on the cause of CKD.

Aspirin is not dangerous for your kidneys.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
