Peripheral Edema in feet and ankle

Question
I suffer from moderate permanent pitting edemas and I am taking loop diuretics but they seem to work just a little.

I have undergone many tests from liver, kidneys and bloodwork and everything comes out ok. ( MRI's, CT's and Urinalysis )

In the past I was a heavy crack-cocaine user, can this have an impact in my kidney function and if so couls it be reversible?

Any other suggestions?

Do you think I need to see an Urologist?

Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Hector,

Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".

A careful history, physical examination, lab tests and imaging of the urinary tract are required to diagnose your condition. Unfortunately, I am unable to do this over the internet.

A number of kidney diseases can result from cocaine use. Some of them are nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, amyloidosis, interstitial nephritis, and rhabdomyolysis

Please get yourself evaluated by a Nephrologist. A urologist has no role in your case.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
