Urine pH

Question
Hi Dr Shah,

I wrote to you previously about my Urinalysis. I also remembered that my urine pH was listed as 8. I'm concern about this as many have pH lesser than this. I eat about 3-5 servings or vegetables and fruits daily and not much meat, was wondering if that will cause the higher pH. Also morning urine seemed to be more acidic. I tested it with a dipstick. The manufacturers of the dipstick stated that Urine with room temperature should be used but sometimes I just pee on them. Will that be a factor?

Sincerely,

Colin

Answer
Hi Colin,

Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".

An alkaline pH can be due to many factors:

1. Urinary tract infection

2. Vegetarian diet

3. Alkalosis

4. Pyloric stenosis/obstruction

5. Vomiting

6. Alkalizing drugs

Please discuss this with your physician.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
