Question
I have a ratio of 19. My BUN is 29 & Creat is 1.5. Can this be reversed? I have been taking 1 tablet of colchicine (.6mg) each day since June, 2007, for gout prevention. It works. Do you think this medicine could have negatively affected my kidneys?
Answer
Hi Pat,
Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".
What are the normal reference ranges for your lab? As I have said earlier on this forum, a number of factors can affect the BUN/Creat ratio. Some of them are:
1. Dehydration
2. Steroid therapy
3. Large meat intake
4. Bleeding from the gut
Colchicine 0.6 mg per day is not likely to affect your kidneys.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
