Question
hi my daughter whos 9 yrs has had h.s.purpura last year she now has blood and protein in her urine can u tell me why shes getting protein creatinine ratio test her results were 64% then went to 115% thank u for your time
Answer
Hi Bree,
One important test to estimate the extent of kidney damage has been the 24-hour urinary protein estimation. However, this "gold-standard" test gives false results if urine is not collected properly.
To obviate this issue, a spot urine protein/creatinine ratio has been devised. It does not have problems due to urine collection, but at the same time, gives a value equivalent to the 24 hour test.
I am not sure I can comment on the numbers that you have provided. This test is reported as numbers, not percentages.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
