Question
I have been doing my Complete Medical's 3-4 times a year from the last 15 years.
Dec 2008 I did my medicals all was normal. In Jan 2009 I developed a very bad throat infection, Feb 2009 I did my medicals again and found 4+ Proteins in my Urine, createnine was 1.4, bp 130/80
I did a kidney biopsey and was diagnosed with Membraneous Glomular Nephritis.
Through my nephroligist I went through a steriod treatment as follows:
Month 1, 3, 5: Solumedrol 1mg x 3 days, Balance of the month (Losar, runifol, omega 3, wysolone, ion tablets, cod liver oil, dilzem, lipicure)
Month 2, 4 & 6: Endoxan, Losar, runifol, omega 3, wysolone, ion tablets, cod liver oil, dilzem, lipicure.
My reports now are Proteins in urine absent, Createnine 1.3, BP 130/80, 24 Hrs protein analysis 400 mg/day.
I want to know if I am getting cured, if not do I have to take medicines life long. Does this lead to dialysis. Can I travel?
I also had to change my carrier due to this as it involves a lot of travelling.
Please advice.
Answer
Hi Rahul,
Thanks for your question on "Allexperts".
Upto one third of patients with Membranous Nephropathy will have spontaneous remission (cure). Some others will have remisssion due to treatment. A lot depends on the biopsy picture. Please discuss with your Nephrologist.
A small percentage of patients with Membranous Nephropathy do end up on dialysis. However, you seem to be doing fairly well. I see no objection to traveling.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
