Question
My creatinine serum was measured at 1.57. BUN is 13. All other results are within normal parameters. No protein in urine. Albumin is 4.1 I am 49, 6'5" and fit. I was training for endurance races and have a very low level of body fat.
I have taken creatine supplements most of this summer and have a diet very high in protein. Could the high creatinine serum be a result of the creatine and high protein diet?
Answer
Hi Chris,
Thanks for asking my opinion on "Allexperts".
A diet high in protein with creatine supplements could very well be the cause of elevated serum creatinine. Please re-check your serum creatinine two weeks after stopping the supplements.
Also do not forget to mention the units and the normal reference range for your lab when you write your lab results to me.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
