Kidney Transplant

Question
QUESTION: I had a kidney transplant 02/17/2009. Back in 07 I went to the doctor and he ran some test on my ejaculation and found no sperm, so my question is, now that I have another kidney and it is working very well, is there a chance for me to have sperm now??

ANSWER: Hi Dee,

Thanks for asking my help on "Allexperts".

Most adult patients with normal kidney function after transplant have an improvement in sperm count and motility.

It is important to know your age and the onset of renal failure. Semen variables are severely affected and spermatogenesis does not improve after renal transplantation when patients are subjected to uremia before or during adolescence, the crucial period for spermatogenesis.

Dr. Shah

QUESTION: Thanks, I am 29 and I found out about it 12/2007, don't really know how long before then when they went out

ANSWER: Thanks for following up with me, Dee.

There is a fairly good chance that your spermatogenesis would have improved. Why don't you get a semen analysis done?

Dr. Shah

QUESTION: Ok, I will do that, what do you think about the PreConceive Plus Male Infertility Test to try first?

Answer
Hi Dee,

Good to hear from you again.

I am not an expert on male fertility. However, the test that you have mentioned does not give any information on two very important parameters: the morphology and motility of sperms.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
