Question
I recently had blood work that showed an eGFR of 49 ml/min/1.73m2 and a creatinine, serum of 1.21 mg/dl. I also had the same test done last October with the same results. Last year, my Dr. ran a creatinine clearance 24hr test with the following results: creatinine serum .83 mg/dl, total volume 1366 ml/24 h, creatinine, urine 117 mg/dl, creatinine, urnine/24 hr 1598mg/24 h and creatinine clearance 147ml/min. I was told that the tests actually indicated no disease and that my kidneys were functioning extremely well. Here are my specifics: I was diagnosed in 2006 with non-hodgkin's lymphoma and had RCHOP and radiation. I am very fit, exercise at least 5x/week, eat well, non-drinker and non-smoker. Have no apparent health issues related to the chemo or radiation. Could the tests really be indicative of my kidneys working well and not of disease?
Answer
Hi AH,
Thanks for your question on "Allexperts'.
A 24 hour creatinine clearance is more reliable than an estimated GFR. You have a normal CC test result. I'd give you a clean bill of health as far as the kidneys are concerned.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shah
