Question related with kidney creatinine

Question
Hello Doctor,

I have a question related with my father's health.

He is a diabetic for past 15 yrs.His job involved a lot of travelling due to which he used to complain of backaches. He was not very good in maintaining his sugar levels .

Around 4-5 months ago had a lot of swelling on his body and after much tests we found out that his creatinine level has increased to 3.8 .He also became weak and always complains of fatigue. Now he has got such a bad backache that he is not able to walk properly for which we took him to neurologist and found that his creatinine level has shoot up to 4.2

My questions are

1. What should we do to maintain his creatinine level

2. Is his backache related with kidney dysfunction

3. What should we be doing so that kindeys are not damanged further

Waiting for your response

Thanks

Amit

Answer
Hi Amit,

Thanks for asking my help on "Allexperts".

A careful history, physical examination, lab tests and imaging of the urinary tract are required to diagnose your father's kidney issues. Unfortunately, I am not able to do this over the internet. On the surface, it seems that he is suffering from diabetic nephropathy.

Now on to your questions:

1. Get him evaluated by a Nephrologist

2. Most probably not

3. Refer to 1 above

Sincerely,

Dr. Shah
